American Girl Mine - Level 2
The American Girl Mine route runs through the Cargo Muchacho Mountains area of eastern Imperial County, in the low Sonoran Desert near the Arizona border. It is a desert backcountry drive through open washes, low rocky hills and old mining country.
The route suits a stock high clearance vehicle and is a good choice for the cooler months. Summer heat in this part of California is severe, so plan fuel, water and timing around the season.

Expect dirt and rocky road with possible rocks, dips or ruts under 9 inches. Shallow water crossings and small ledges under 12 inches are possible, and the road is typically unmaintained after rain. Roads are usually one to two vehicles wide. The driver reports that all of the route is easy, so no section needs special attention beyond normal desert driving.
