Some Ruins - Level 1
Some Ruins is an easy backcountry route in southwestern Utah, in Washington County near the town of Leeds. The name points to ruins along the way the ruins are down by the creek.
The route suits a relaxed outing in a stock high-clearance vehicle. The area is open desert country, so it works best on a cool day with plenty of water and fuel.

Suitable for high clearance 2WD
This is an Easy trail, level 1. A high-clearance 2WD vehicle with stock equipment is enough, and no special gear is needed. Expect dirt or rocky road with obstacles under 5 inches, such as small rocks, dips or ruts, and gentle grades with good traction. The road is typically two vehicles wide, and most 4WD and high-clearance 2WD vehicles can drive it. The driver's log has no obstacles or sections that need special attention.
Terrain
The route is in the desert country of the St. George area. Around Leeds, the nearby Silver Reef area has sandstone bedrock exposures, a young basalt flow and the Virgin River, according to the Utah Geological Survey. Dirt roads here run through sandy washes, sagebrush and desert scrub. Surfaces can be loose or washboarded in places. Sandy or muddy sections can change after rain.
Highlights
The Utah Geological Survey lists dinosaur tracks, petroglyphs, mine workings and a small arch in the wider Silver Reef area near Leeds. Check whether any of these are close to the route before you go. Treat any ruins, rock art or artifacts as protected. Look without touching and leave everything in place.
